TNRの際に野良猫を人道的に捕獲するために捕獲器に餌を仕掛けますが、餌はあまり多く置かないほうがよいようです。International Cat CareのTNRマニュアル（https://icatcare.org/unowned-cats/feral-street-cats/trapping/）にはこう書かれています。
Do not place too much food in the trap – once they are trapped, cats are unlikely to continue eating and remaining food is often disturbed and makes a mess. You may want to place very small amounts just inside the trap to encourage the cats in
捕獲器の中に餌を入れすぎてはいけません。一度捕獲器に入った猫は餌を食べ続けませんし、残った餌は邪魔になり散らかります。そのため、捕獲器の中にごく少量の餌を入れて、猫が入ってくるようにするとよいでしょう。
具体的な餌の仕掛け方については、様々な方が編み出した秘伝の方法もあるかもしれませんが、一般的な方法についてはAlley Cat Alliesのホームページ（https://www.alleycat.org/resources/how-to-help-community-cats-a-step-by-step-guide-to-trap-neuter-return/）にも詳しく記されています。
Place about one tablespoon of bait at the very back of the trap so the cat must step on the trip plate to reach the food. You may choose to put the food on a safe, disposable container (such as a plastic lid or paper plate). Drizzle some juice from the bait in a zigzag pattern along the trap floor toward the entrance. Also place a tiny bit of food (¼ teaspoon) just inside the entrance of the trap to encourage the cat to walk in.
大さじ1杯程度の餌を捕獲器の一番奥に置き、猫が餌にたどり着くにはトリッププレートを踏まなければならないようにします。餌は安全な使い捨ての容器（プラスチックの蓋や紙皿など）の上に置くとよいでしょう。餌の汁を捕獲器の床に沿って入り口に向かってジグザグに垂らします。また、猫が中に入っていくのを促すために、捕獲器の入り口のすぐ内側に餌をほんの少し（小さじ1/4）置きます。
一般的に仕掛ける餌は猫缶や、魚や鶏肉の煮込みなど、臭いが強いものがよいようですが、その地域の猫の好みによって変えてもよいと思います。しばらくその餌で餌付けを行いますので、猫用のフードまたは猫向けに調理した餌を用います。チクワやツナ缶など、人間の嗜好に合わせた味付けの食品は塩分が高いため、猫に与えることはお勧めできません。
