“The Association of Shelter Veterinarians’ 2016 Veterinary Medical Care Guidelines for Spay-Neuter Programs”※（ASVによる避妊去勢プログラムにおける獣医療ガイドライン2016；以下「S/Nガイドライン」）から、麻酔手順のガイドラインについて見ていきましょう。

環境温度の管理
For most patients undergoing neutering through a spay-neuter program, there is a considerable potential for hypothermia. Therefore, efforts to maintain normal body temperature should be made from the time of patient admission until discharge.
避妊去勢プログラムで不妊手術を受ける患者の多くは、低体温症になる可能性がかなり高い。したがって、患者の入院時から退院時まで、正常な体温を維持するよう努めるべきである。(p169R)
Prior to premedication and induction of anesthesia, ambient temperature and humidity should be controlled to keep animals comfortable.
前投薬や麻酔導入の前に、動物が快適に過ごせるよう周囲の温度や湿度を管理すべきである。(p169R)
Drafts should be avoided, and animals should be kept dry.
すきま風を避け、かつ動物を乾いた状態にすべきである。(p169R)
The recommended ambient temperature range for housing cats and dogs is between 18° and 28°C (64°and 84°F) with a temperature setting in the low to mid 70s being typical. However, the temperature setting and amount of bedding material used for insulation should be tailored to the needs of individual animals.
犬猫を飼育する際に推奨される周囲温度の範囲は、18°～28°C（64°～84°F）で、設定温度は70°F台前半から半ばが一般的である。ただし、温度設定や断熱のために使用する寝具の量は、個々の動物のニーズに合わせるべきである。(p169R)
The location of the animal should also be considered because there may be a temperature differential between the floor level and elevated enclosures.
また、床面と高さのある囲いの間に温度差がある場合があるため、動物の位置も考慮すべきである。(p169R)
If necessary, supplemental heat sources should be used, but care must be taken to prevent hyperthermia and thermal burns.
必要に応じて補助的な熱源を用いるべきであるが、高熱症や熱傷を防ぐために注意を払わなければならない。(p169R-170L)
【のらぬこの解説】
避妊去勢手術の際には全身麻酔を実施します。その際には動物の体温管理が重要です。全身麻酔中は体温調整がうまくいかないため、低体温状態になりがちです。低体温は合併症のリスクを高めますし、麻酔後の回復を遅らせます。特に麻酔からの回復中の動物や、幼齢・虚弱・病気の動物については、体温維持に細心の注意を払うべきです。
